In order to demonstrate how this site will feature real weddings and their details, my first Jessica Haley Feature Wedding is my own. The images themselves are specifically chosen to demonstrate how the details were coordinated to create specific effects and I’ve calligraphed directly on a few of them to point out the specific elements to pay special attention to.
When I began planning our wedding day celebration – my top priorities were the guest experience first and foremost, making the details really personal and true to us as a couple and to our families and friends as well, and tying together the colors and visual elements cohesively for a complete experience. The first big decision – where to hold the wedding? We chose to have a “destination” wedding in Arizona where I grew up. Since most of our guests would be traveling from out of town, we incorporated the desert landscape and mountain views into the experience by choosing a venue that embraced the natural setting and gave the guests a great vacation simultaneously. One of my “must-have” items – a windowed ballroom – indoors to combat the Arizona heat with an outdoor element to highlight the sunset views of the desert and Camelback Mountain. I hand painted directional signage for the cities where most of our guests traveled from for display on the terrace.
The wedding colors were a big deal for me! I chose the eggplant, plum and shades of fuchsia pink to highlight the desert sunset and I incorporated light blue and white details to bring in the feeling of a Hampton’s beach wedding which is where Dave and I met and got engaged. I layered the vibrant florals with the bridesmaid dresses and sweetheart table decor with the soft blue and white repeated band across the invitation, the menu, the wedding day signage and the groomsman ties. We even brought in a white dance floor to finish the look!
My wedding did not have a specific theme per-say but I used well thought-out colors and feelings to guide my planning decisions and the choices I made about the decor, attire, floral design and the overall experience for the guests celebrating with us.
